Holding the Ropes Update #42

For those who are Americans—Happy 4th of July! We were able to celebrate on July 3rd with missionary friends in Phnom Penh. The kids were able to play with lots of white kids!

We wanted to send you some special prayer needs for the month of July:

1. Bakan District—Please continue to pray for this new open door that I mentioned in our previous prayer letter. I have been out to this district 5 times now. One Sunday morning, I preached to a group of 9 about “Why must we believe on Jesus?” from Acts 26:18. At this point, I am still not sure of the spiritual state and interest of this group. Please pray for this group to hunger and thirst for righteousness and God’s Word.

2. Kundieng District—I have decided to sell books in the main market in this district twice a week for a month. The Lord has provided a wonderful location and many have stopped at my table to get tracts. A few have bought small books on the Bible. Please pray for the sowing of the seed to fall on good ground.

3. Pursat Town—Our teammates have been very busy with a new believer’s class in the Prey Nyee church. Among those attending is our unsaved house helper, Ong! She is currently asking lots of questions, especially to the McPhail’s house helper, Hooey, who has recently repented and believed on Christ! Please pray for both of these ladies at this time.

4. Singapore—Our family has been invited by an English-speaking Singaporean church to speak at their annual missions conference in mid-July. I will have the opportunity to preach on missions and Cambodia at least 6 times during that week. Please pray for us as we travel to and minister in Singapore from July 17-27.

5. Seawright Home—Last, but not least, for those who haven’t heard, Heidi is expecting Baby Seawright #4. She is over 4 months along and the baby is due on Christmas Eve! Please begin to pray for this little one and for Heidi.

Thanks for bringing these five requests before the Lord in July.

Until the net is full,

Chris for the Seawrights

Holding the Ropes Update #41
Filed under (Holding the Ropes) by Chris Seawright @ 02:11 pm

Dear Family and Friends,

This week is our 9th wedding anniversary! We are planning a short get-away to Battambang, a Cambodian town about 1½ hours away that has some restaurants with Western food. We love our kids, but are looking forward to a day away from them.

As I mentioned in our previous update, Pisut and Srey Tul, two previously disciplined individuals from the Inheritance in Christ Church, have repented and trusted in Christ. On May 3, both of them were baptized as well as the McPhail’s oldest son, Micaiah. Forrest had the joy of baptizing them (see picture). Pisut is a new creature in Christ but do continue in your prayers for him at this time. Satan is not happy with his repentance.

Over the next week or two, our team will be hosting our second summer intern (the first one for our family since we were on furlough last year when Matt Hancock interned here). Joe Scroggins, who just graduated from Northland Baptist Bible College, will be with us in Pursat for 10-days (May 15-25). At the end of his visit our family will be taking him to see Angkor Wat before he heads to Rattanakiri to be with another missionary friend. Please pray for the Lord to use this trip in Joe’s life and that we would be a blessing to him.

Thanks for bringing these requests before the Lord.

Until the net is full,

Chris

Holding the Ropes Update #40
Filed under (Holding the Ropes) by Chris Seawright @ 08:19 am

Thanks to all who prayed for our trip to Thailand and Heidi’s trip to Singapore. We had a very profitable trip, though adventurous at times. The doctor in Singapore ran tests on Heidi’s hands again. Neither hand had improved over the past three months but the doctor does not think that Heidi should pursue surgery at this time. Heidi was able to get all of her paperwork from Singapore and met with another doctor in Bangkok, Thailand who basically agreed with the doctor’s advice in Singapore. So, at this point, Heidi will continue to take the vitamins the doctor gave to her and we pray that the Lord will heal her hands in His timing.

We also want to praise the Lord that another individual who was disciplined from the church in Preiy Nyee two years ago has repented of his drunkenness and wants to follow Christ. Pisut, a teacher of philosophy at Pursat High School, repented before the church body on April 13, the week after the Bible conference. In just one month we have seen 2 out of 3 disciplined individuals repent of their sins of idolatry (Srey Tuul) and drunkenness (Pisut)! The church folks are rejoicing. Please pray for these two and for their families in the coming weeks.

Until the net is full,

Chris

Holding the Ropes Update #39

Happy Khmer New Year and Happy Easter! I hope each of you had a time of rejoicing over the significance of the resurrection of Jesus. It was a great privilege to preach in Khmer this past Sunday on the hope of all true believers based on I Corinthians 15:12-20.

God has been working in our midst in a special way over the past couple of weeks. Thanks to each of you who prayed for our first ever Bible Conference here in Pursat that we had last week. It was a huge blessing in every way. Two preachers from Phnom Penh came and preached on the family. God is continuing to use the messages in the lives of the believers in Preiy Nyee. Many decisions were made and many have shared testimonies of repentance with the church body. The church also had about 10-15 visitors come for the special evangelistic meeting on Wednesday night, including our house helper, Ong!

Probably the most significant decision of all was that of Srey Tul, Seenik’s wife, whom we have been praying for over two years since she was disciplined out of the church. Before the conference even started, she approached the leadership of the church and indicated that she wanted to repent of her idolatry, trust Christ, and be accepted back into the fellowship of the church. Praise the Lord! This was a specific prayer request that we mentioned on our furlough video from last year. Apparently, God decided to use the testimony of her saved husband, Seenik, to soften her heart to the Gospel. Please pray now for the process of receiving her back into the assembly and for protection from Satan and her Buddhist father, who is a witch doctor.

There are others who are in the process of repenting as I write this update. Please pray for these as well.

I also wanted to ask for your prayers for our family as we travel to Thailand and Singapore over the coming days. Heidi will be flying to Singapore this Friday, April 17 and will be there for over 24 hours meeting with doctors who diagnosed her carpal tunnel syndrome back in January. If they recommend surgery, then Heidi will have surgery done in Bangkok, Thailand. Please pray for safety in our travels, wisdom for the doctors this weekend, as well as clear direction to what we should do with Heidi’s medical issues.

Thanks for bringing these three prayer needs before our resurrected Lord.

Until the net is full,

Chris

Holding the Ropes Update #38
Filed under (Holding the Ropes) by Chris Seawright @ 09:49 am

This will be our last update from the States. We are leaving for our second term in Cambodia this coming Tuesday, January 13.

Thanks for those who prayed for my ordination. I am pleased to announce that I passed my ordination council and am planning to get ordained Sunday evening, January 11, at our sending church, University Baptist Church!

We would like to ask for your prayers for us during our travels and adjustments in the coming days. We are thankful to the Lord for the wonderful time of furlough, but we are ready to go back home.

Our next update, Lord-willing, will come from the other side of the world!

Excited to cast the net again in Cambodia,

Chris for the Seawright family
